Frequently asked questions
Questions about
Keep Colorado Powered.

FAQs
What is Keep Colorado Powered?
Keep Colorado Powered provides donated battery backup systems and professional installation services to Colorado organizations making a meaningful impact in their communities.
What kinds of organizations can be nominated?
Organizations may include nonprofits, schools, public service organizations, food assistance programs, animal rescues, and businesses that demonstrate meaningful community impact.
Does an organization have to be a nonprofit?
No. Organizations do not need to be nonprofit organizations. We are especially looking for organizations whose operations can be affected by planned or unplanned power outages, meaning they rely on electricity to continue their important work.
What does the recipient receive?
A donated battery backup system — a Tesla Powerwall 3 with an Expansion Pack — and professional installation from Photon Brothers.
How many organizations are selected each year?
One. Keep Colorado Powered is an annual program, and one community-serving organization is selected each year.
When do nominations open and close?
Nominations open on December 1 and close on February 28.
How is the recipient selected?
Nominations are reviewed as they arrive, alongside site assessments. After nominations close, an internal review narrows the field to ten organizations, an advisory panel selects three finalists, and the recipient is announced on April 1.
When is the system installed?
Installation takes place over June and July, and the community celebration follows in August.
